Alex Márquez Reveals the Key Advantage That Keeps Factory Ducati Riders Ahead

Alex Márquez has acknowledged that Ducati’s factory team riders have a small but crucial edge over their satellite counterparts, including himself. The Gresini Racing rider, who has shown solid performances in MotoGP, admits that the factory Ducati duo of Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini operate with an advantage that keeps them “half a step ahead” in the competition.

Where Factory Ducati Riders Hold the Advantage

Speaking about the differences between his Gresini-run Desmosedici and the factory machines, Márquez highlighted a few critical areas where the factory squad holds the upper hand. One of the biggest factors is access to real-time data updates and development changes.

“The factory team has immediate access to the latest upgrades and fine-tuning from Ducati engineers,” Márquez explained. “Even if we eventually get those updates, they always receive them first, which gives them a slight but important advantage in performance.”

Additionally, Márquez pointed out that the factory riders receive more direct input from Ducati’s technical staff, allowing them to optimize their bike settings more effectively. “It’s not a huge gap, but when you’re racing at the limit, even a tiny improvement can make a big difference.”

Despite the advantages enjoyed by the factory riders, Márquez remains optimistic about his chances of competing at the front. He has already proven his ability to challenge the top riders, but consistency remains a challenge without the same level of factory support.

“The goal is to keep improving and extract the maximum from what we have. We’ve shown that satellite teams can fight at the front, but it takes everything coming together perfectly,” he added.

While the factory team’s edge may not seem massive, MotoGP is a sport where fractions of a second separate victory from defeat. Márquez and other satellite riders will need to rely on their skill, racecraft, and strategy to challenge the Ducati factory duo throughout the season.
