Brent Burns, the iconic defenseman for the Carolina Hurricanes, has announced that the 2024-2025 NHL season will be his final campaign in the league. The 39-year-old has been a dominant presence in the NHL for two decades, recognized for his fierce play on the ice and his unmistakable look off it.

The decision marks the end of an era for one of the league’s most versatile players. Known for his powerful shot, agility despite his 6’5″ frame, and unique blend of grit and skill, Burns has been a fan favorite and an all-star throughout his career. He spent the bulk of his career with the San Jose Sharks before joining the Hurricanes in 2022, where he’s continued to make a major impact.

In a statement, Burns said, “This game has given me everything I could ask for – the friendships, the challenges, the victories, and the losses. As much as I love hockey, it’s time for me to close this chapter and look forward to spending more time with my family and exploring the next steps in my journey.”

Burns hinted at his next move, which might see him joining the world of media or even coaching, though he was clear that he plans to remain involved with hockey in some capacity.

A Storied Career

Known for his exuberant personality and passion for wildlife and outdoor activities, Burns also stands out for his various philanthropic efforts and connection with fans.

Legacy in the NHL

As Burns enters his final season, the hockey world will be watching closely, knowing it’s the last chance to witness one of the game’s greats in action.
