JOAO CANCELO WANTS TO PLAY FOR BARCELONA NEXT SEASON

Barcelona is reportedly working on retaining influential defender joao cancelo at the club after his loan from manchester city. Barcelona is reportedly planning to take steps toward signing joao felix and joao cancelo in the january transfer window, according to spanish outlet mundo deportivo (via sport witness), with the portuguese duo prioritizing their stay at the camp nou. Since joining barcelona on the summer transfer deadline day from manchester city, cancelo has been a success story for barcelona, who last season ended in bayern munich on a similar streak.

Although still considered one of the best full-backs in the country, catalan boss pep guardiola has to admit that he is no longer playing at the etihad stadium. Barcelona could only take the 29-year-old portuguese international on loan and not on a permanent basis due to their financial fair play problems in recent years. But three months have passed, and the blaugrana right-back has already convinced the blaugrana hierarchy to make his transfer a long-term commitment after the season ends.

Cancelo has made a good start to life in barcelona, as shown by his impressive start. The right-back has had little to no time to adapt to xavi hernandez’s squad and is an undisputed starter under the spanish tactician. He plays an integral part in the team’s attacks and even drifts into central spaces to orchestrate the game as an inverted fullback.

In barça’s champions league victory over porto in midweek, the 29-year-old was undoubtedly the star of the show. He showed off his versatility as a left-back once more, scoring a goal and an assist.

They will also work with manchester city to come up with a contract so that cancelo can continue beyond the season. Given barcelona’s tight budget, it will be difficult, but the player will do his part to prolong his stay, as he does not see returning to the etihad as an option on his agenda.
