After Brad Holmes meets the media, it’s time to discuss how the first-time CEO has fared over the past year.
It wasn’t an easy start, because Holmes was immediately tasked with finding Detroit a trade partner to replace longtime quarterback Matthew Stafford;
he managed to pull a bunch of picks from the Los Angeles Rams and Jared Goff.
He followed that up with seven picks in the 2021 NFL Draft and a mixed free agency draft class.
There were certainly limits: the salary cap was far from ideal, and it was clear that in the first year of the reconstruction there was a temptation to go against the veterans by finding young talent to give him playing time.
In his end-of-season press conference, Holmes addressed a few of them, and we’ll break it down in the latest Pride Of Detroit PODcast.
The PODcast never sleeps in the off-season, and we dedicate this entire episode to examining the work that Holmes has done, with assessments, observations, praises, criticisms and reservations.
It’s the whole spectrum, and we’ll have plenty of time to talk about it — especially as we look at the Lions’ upcoming free agency and the 2022 NFL Draft..
