Real Madrid have arguably the best midfield in the world right now. We’ve already run out of superlatives to describe how good Jude Bellingham has been since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in the summer. Eduardo Camavinga, Fede Valverde and Aurelien Tchouamen are also a big part of their future.
It is a transition for Real Madrid. So legends like Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are no longer tied to rookies. Dani Ceballos is someone who will also be expected to see regular game time.
Despite this, it appears that Real Madrid have been given the opportunity to sign the Manchester City midfielder. However, it seems unlikely that he will do them.
News comes out of nowhere. As reported by Defensa Central (via CaughtOffside), Kalvin Phillips’ agent has contacted Real Madrid about a potential move. Real Madrid have offered the chance to sign the £45 million player from Manchester City
Manchester City signed Phillips in the summer of 2022 for a transfer fee of around £45 million. He came through the ranks at Leeds United to establish himself as a club hero. He has also been involved in England’s success in recent years, including their run to the EURO 2020 final.
However, Phillips’ time at Manchester City proved unsuccessful. He barely found a place in Pep Guardiola’s side. It is thought to be only a matter of time before Phillips leaves Manchester City. His departure could come as early as the next January transfer window.
It’s very clear that Phillips can contribute in the right role. And at 27, he’s in his prime. That said, it’s hard to imagine where he would fit in this already assembled Real Madrid squad.
