Tottenham News have been told that Spurs have been tipped to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres ahead of London rivals Chelsea. Gyokeres played well for Sporting in his debut season in Portugal.The Swede scored 22 goals and provided 10 assists in his first 25 appearances for the Lisbon club and won three times in the UEFA Europa League. Sporting signed the 25-year-old from Championship side Coventry last summer in a deal believed to be worth around £20m, a record fee for both clubs (Coventry Telegraph 13 Jul 2023).With rumors linking the striker with a move to Stamford Bridge, Tottenham News understands that Spurs have been tipped to compete with the Blues for Gyokeres’ signature.Since arriving in Portugal, the value of the striker has increased tremendously. Chelsea recently rejected their £73m bid for the striker (Daily Mail, 16 January).
A recruitment source close to Spurs has told Tottenham News that he would have liked to see the north London outfit sign Gyokere while he was still at Coventry, revealing they believe the striker would be better off at Tottenham. Hotspur Stadium in the role of Timo Werner, who recently joined Spurs on a six-month loan deal from RB Leipzig.
Gyokeres scored 21 goals and provided 10 assists in 46 Championship appearances as the Sky Blues reached the play-off final at Wembley, where Luton Town won on penalties (27 May 2023).
He made 19 appearances for Sweden, playing alongside Spurs ace Dejan Kulusevski, scoring five goals in that time..
